Poland in turmoil as manager probierz clashes with Lewandowski

Poland’s World Cup 2026 qualifying campaign has been rocked by a bitter feud between coach Michał Probierz and star striker Robert Lewandowski. The Barcelona forward announced his refusal to play for the national team while Probierz remains in charge, following a heated dispute over the captaincy.

Probierz revealed details of their Sunday night confrontation, explaining he stripped Lewandowski of the armband in favor of Napoli’s Piotr Zieliński after consulting players.

“The whole team supported my decision,” Probierz stated, though he denied closing the door on Lewandowski’s return – just his captaincy.

The locker room appears to have sided with management, with Zieliński emphasizing “the team’s welfare” over individual drama.

This very public power struggle threatens to destabilize Poland’s qualifying efforts as they prepare for a crucial match against Finland.

While Probierz maintains the squad remains united, losing their all-time top scorer could prove costly for a team already under pressure to perform.

The standoff highlights growing tensions between Poland’s golden generation and new leadership.
