Niger: Strategic reinforcement of internal security, President Tiani restructures the General Inspectorate of Security Services

In a national context marked by persistent security challenges and increasing pressure from the fight against terrorism, the Council of Ministers, meeting this Wednesday under the chairmanship of His Excellency General Abdourahamane Tiani, has taken a decisive step. Through the adoption of a draft decree reorganizing the General Inspectorate of Security Services (IGSS), established in 2017, Niger is initiating a structural reform aimed at strengthening its internal security.

This reorganization, which includes the establishment of regional branches of the IGSS, is part of a broader strategy of operational decentralization and enhanced governance. By providing this institution with a more extensive territorial network, the government aims to improve the effectiveness of oversight, discipline within the security forces, and transparency in the exercise of sovereign duties.

Driven by President Abdourahamane Tiani, this initiative reflects a clear objective: to bring security institutions closer to local realities in order to respond more effectively to threats, while ensuring better supervision of forces on the ground. This closer proximity is particularly crucial in the current context, where terrorist armed groups exploit weaknesses in security organization in certain rural and border areas.

Through this reform, President Tiani reaffirms his determination to build a strong, protective, and responsible state. It strengthens the institutional framework for community-based security and embodies a strategic vision: that of a republican, structured, localized security system, dedicated to serving the citizens.
