Burkina-Faso: Captain Ibrahim Traoré, strategic clarity for a united and sovereign AES

The speech delivered by the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, during the official flag-raising ceremony marking the solemn performance of the anthem of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES), stood out as a manifesto of resistance and hope—reflecting his vision of a sovereign and united Sahel.
In light of recent events within the Confederation—the surge in terrorist attacks in Mali, attempts to destabilize Burkina Faso, and the recent public statement by Niger’s President, General Abdourahamane Tiani—Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s speech appears as both a strategic move and a profound commitment to strengthening unity among the Confederation’s member states.
Unity between Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger—though difficult—is essential for these three states to face multiple challenges, whether internal dynamics or external interference. The Burkinabe President’s combative stance is a call for vigilance, for strengthening and intensifying anti-terrorism strategies (against a war imposed by imperialist forces seeking to keep the Sahel in stagnation), and for defending sovereignty.
Beyond that, the Burkinabe President’s speech lays the groundwork for an openly sovereignist doctrine, grounded in a realistic understanding of international relations. It is a call to African peoples to break free from all forms of ideological or economic dependence, because Africa can only rise through its own means, with its own resources, its own choices, and its own strategic unity.
