Togo: Gnassingbé Eyadema International Airport (AIGE) confirms its status as a regional air hub, with rising passenger numbers

Gnassingbé Eyadema International Airport (AIGE) continues its steady rise. According to Togo’s quarterly budget execution report, 329,618 passengers passed through Lomé Airport in the first quarter of 2025, marking a 1.2% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth confirms the resilience and growing appeal of the airport platform.

This performance is the result of a clear strategy implemented by the Togolese authorities under the leadership of Council President Faure Gnassingbé. Investments in infrastructure, improved airport services, a strategic geographic location, and proactive economic diplomacy have all positioned Lomé as a key gateway to West Africa.

The airport AIGE now plays a central role in establishing Togo as a preferred logistics and trade corridor for the member countries of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES)—landlocked nations now better connected thanks to Togo’s offerings. The dynamism of airlines operating in Lomé, particularly ASKY Airlines, has also significantly contributed to the rise in passenger traffic.

Beyond passenger transport, the airport is also strengthening its logistics and freight capabilities, aiming to become a major hub for the transit of goods between continents and within Africa. This ambition aligns with the structural projects underway at the Adétikopé Industrial Platform (PIA) and broader regional initiatives.
