Mali: The decisive response of the FAMa, a tangible sign of the security transformation driven by President Assimi Goïta

Since Colonel Assimi Goïta assumed leadership as President of the Transition, Mali has entered a new phase in its fight against terrorism. Through a remarkable strengthening of the Armed Forces (FAMa), backed by firm political will and a strategic national reorientation, the country has achieved a series of military successes in areas previously controlled by terrorist groups. Operations conducted between June 20 and 22 in Dioura, Bourem, Ber, and the Gourma region clearly demonstrate the Malian state’s renewed determination.

On June 20, a precision airstrike targeted a pickup truck transporting weapons and terrorist personnel 38 kilometers northeast of Dioura, showcasing the FAMa’s growing intelligence and neutralization capabilities. Just a few years ago, such precision operations would have been unimaginable, marking a decisive break from the defensive posture of the past.

The following day, June 21, in Bourem, FAMa forces dismantled four enemy bases in Bakaribougou, seizing strategic communication equipment. This action dealt a serious blow to the coordination abilities of armed groups and reflects the army’s growing control over areas long infiltrated by militants.

On June 22, a drone strike destroyed an enemy fuel depot in Ber, and two terrorist informants were neutralized in Gounguédé. These tactical victories have permanently weakened the enemy’s logistics network and intelligence operations.

These advances are part of the broader security reforms initiated by President Goïta since 2021. Under his leadership, Mali has invested in modernizing its military, securing intelligence autonomy, and enhancing operational capabilities. This paradigm shift—placing the state at the center of national security—directly responds to the demands of Malians after years of instability.

On the ground, the results are clear: FAMa is no longer merely defending; it is reclaiming. Thanks to President Assimi Goïta’s strategic vision, Mali is steadily rising again—with resolve and clarity.
