Niger: Armed forces consolidate national sovereignty in the face of terrorism through strategic operations
In a regional context still marked by the asymmetric pressure of terrorist armed groups, the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) of Niger carried out, between August 23 and 28, 2025, a series of highly effective military operations. Conducted under Operations Niya and Almahaou, these recent actions highlight both the growing operational strength and the strategic coherence of the forces—praised at national and international levels.
Operation Niya stood out with two major achievements: the neutralization of improvised explosive devices in Illa Fari—ensuring civilian safety and the freedom of movement for units—and the destruction of a terrorist logistical hub in the CFA Moussa area. Eight hostile elements were neutralized, two war weapons seized, several tricycles recovered, along with a significant quantity of fuel. This operation deprives enemy networks of vital resources while sending a clear message of deterrence.
Meanwhile, in Kandaji, as part of Operation Almahaou, an ambush carefully planned by armed groups was thwarted with composure by Niger’s armed forces. The subsequent sweep led to the arrest of four suspects, proving that the fight against terrorism is also won through intelligence mastery and swift execution.
These successes are not isolated incidents. They are part of the vision of the President of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP), General Abdourahamane Tiani, who considers security inseparable from endogenous development and national sovereignty. Rejecting any external dependency, Niger—anchored in values of dignity, resilience, and Pan-Africanism—is forging its own path.
These operations demonstrate that peace is not proclaimed; it is built through the daily commitment of men and women determined to defend the integrity of the territory. They also confirm that Niger’s transformation is underway, irreversible, and driven by strong political will, deep-rooted patriotism, and a clear direction to make Niger a hub of stability, development, and influence for the entire subregion.
