Togo: A diplomatic return to work marked by strategy and results

In Lomé, on September 3, 2025, Togolese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Robert Dussey, officially launched the new diplomatic year. The 2024-2025 edition was held under a central theme: “New Geopolitical Rivalries and Africa’s Strategic Autonomy.” Through this theme, Togo reaffirms its commitment to interpreting global shifts through the lens of its own interests and those of the continent.

The Togolese government stressed that Africa, in an international context marked by profound realignments, cannot remain a mere spectator. The continent must build strategic autonomy, free itself from excessive dependence, and establish itself as a full-fledged actor on the world stage. For Lomé, this ambition goes hand in hand with an assertive diplomacy that combines political vision with economic pragmatism.

This direction reflects the approach Togo has pursued in recent years: transforming diplomacy into an operational tool in service of national development. The diplomatic year, therefore, is not limited to symbolic discourse but paves the way for concrete and measurable action.

An important milestone was already set last July in Kpalimé, during a meeting where an economic diplomacy roadmap was adopted.

This roadmap calls for greater synergy between diplomatic missions, the diaspora, and partners, in order to strengthen Togo’s presence in international markets and highlight its strategic assets.
