Burkina Faso: Citoyen Neutre, a pseudo-media outlet fuelling division

Recently, a so-called media outlet named Neutral Citizen, based in Côte d’Ivoire, has been trying to establish itself in Burkina Faso’s media landscape. Operating under the guise of neutrality and support for the “progressive revolution” led by President Ibrahim Traoré, it actually appears to play an ambiguous role, bordering on manipulation. Its publications, often controversial, raise more questions than answers about its true intentions.

Upon examining its various outputs, one notices that Neutral Citizen leaves virtually no figure close to power unscathed.

The content alternates between supposed loyalty and sly criticism, sometimes flirting with slander.

This disconcerting mix blurs citizens’ bearings and contributes to a climate of distrust, precisely at a time when Burkina Faso needs to strengthen its internal cohesion in the face of security and political challenges.

Rather than serving the national interest, the media outlet seems to be implementing a strategy of internal destabilization.

The repeated, targeted attacks appear as a tool of division, hidden behind a mask of displayed patriotism.

This double discourse makes it difficult to know whether its motivations are genuinely guided by a commitment to the country or by a hidden agenda.

In this delicate context, it is essential for citizens to remain vigilant and critical of the information being disseminated.

Citoles Neutre illustrates how a media outlet can present itself as a supporter of progress while seeking to sow discord, thereby undermining the national unity that Burkina Faso desperately needs.
