2026 World Cup/ Bafana Bafana heartbreak as Canada snatch Win at the Death

Stephen Eustaquio scored a breathtaking volley in stoppage time to give Canada a 1-0 victory over South Africa in the World Cup Round of 32.

The midfielder struck from outside the box in the second minute of added time. The ball flew into the bottom corner, sparking wild celebrations among Canadian fans.

A tense affair

Both teams created chances in a tight contest at SoFi Stadium. South Africa’s Ronwen Williams made five saves to keep his side in the match.

Alphonso Davies came on in the 75th minute for his first World Cup appearance after a hamstring injury.

South Africa nearly took the lead earlier. Aubrey Modiba cleared Moise Bombito’s header off the line. Williams then denied Tajon Buchanan and Tani Oluwaseyi with excellent stops.

Historic achievement for both

Canada advance to face the Netherlands or Morocco in Houston on July 4. This marks Canada’s first knockout victory in a World Cup.

South Africa exit with heads held high. Bafana Bafana reached the knockout phase for the first time in their history after a stunning win over South Korea. They pushed Canada to the limit until the very end.

Coach Jesse Marsch gathered his players after the final whistle. “You guys are Canadian heroes!” he declared.
