Russia affirms friendship with Niger and aims to strengthen economic cooperation
On January 16, 2024, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Ouvertchouk announced during a press conference that Russia intends to enhance its economic and trade cooperation with Niger. This declaration followed a meeting with a high-level delegation from Niger, led by Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, who has been on an official visit to Russia since January 15.
Ouvertchouk emphasized that Russia regards Niger as a friendly nation and expresses its willingness to strengthen economic ties and trade exchanges.
He specified that Moscow aspires to develop commercial, economic, and investment relations with Niger, considering the country a friendly partner with whom constructive and mutually beneficial relations have existed for a long time.
The Russian Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of cooperation in key sectors such as energy, agriculture, and other domains.
He stressed the need for both countries to work together to cultivate successful partnerships.
The Nigerien delegation, led by Ali Lamine Zeine and including the Ministers of Defense, Petroleum, Sports, and Commerce, has been on a working mission in Moscow since Monday, January 15.
It is worth noting that the Nigerien Prime Minister had announced in December, through a Russian media outlet, the intention of both countries to intensify their military cooperation.
