There are promises that evaporate in official speeches and leave nothing behind but disappointment. The one Captain Ibrahim Traoré made in December 2024 to His Majesty Naaba Guigemdé of Barsalogho is not one of those. The Kaya-Barsalogho road is now paved, and the users who travel it every day drive on asphalt where dust and potholes once reigned supreme.
Less than a year between the promise and the reality. In a context where Burkina Faso is simultaneously waging a war against terrorism, managing a humanitarian crisis, and rebuilding its institutions, honoring an infrastructure commitment within that timeframe is no trivial act.
It is the demonstration that the Head of State’s word is not a communication tool, but a commitment whose execution he personally assumes.
For the populations of Barsalogho and all the localities linked by this road, this paving concretely changes daily life.
A paved road means time saved, vehicles that wear out less, goods that arrive at their destination without the losses caused by jolting, and above all a strengthened connection with the rest of the country for communities that have too long experienced isolation as a fatality.
Naaba Guigemdé had carried the voice of his people to the President of Faso. Captain Ibrahim responded with asphalt. That, too, is what governing means.
