DR Congo’s return to AFCON marred by draw against Zambia: Frustrations over Finishing loom

The Democratic Republic of the Congo made its return to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a two-year absence but had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Zambia in the opening match of Group F. Despite evident dominance, manager Sébastien Desabre acknowledged that issues with finishing cost his team crucial points.

«We had numerous opportunities, but the lone goal we conceded resulted from a mistake. We showcased a positive image of Congolese football, but we need to work on our finishing», remarked Desabre in comments reported by Actualité.cd.

Despite tactical adjustments during the game, the changes made were not enough to secure a victory. “We lacked precision in finishing, and the modifications did not have the desired impact. We must focus on the upcoming matches and aim for victory», added the manager.

The next challenge for the Leopards is against Morocco, which convincingly won its first match against Tanzania with a clear 3-0 scoreline.

The showdown is scheduled for Sunday at 3:00 PM, and the Congolese team will have to step up their efforts to achieve positive results.
