Gianni Infantino clarifies FIFA’s stance on rumored ‘Blue Card’ in Football

Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, recently clarified speculations surrounding the potential introduction of a new card in football, the infamous «blue card».

As rumors spread, hinting at a possible innovation in the sport, the International Football Association Board (IFAB), the body governing football rules, indeed considered implementing this blue card.

According to information disclosed by The Telegraph on February 8, this card would be issued in the event of thwarting a goal-scoring opportunity, resulting in a temporary expulsion of 10 minutes for the offending player. A second blue card in the same match would equate to a red card.

«The FIFA wishes to clarify that information regarding the so-called ‘blue card’ at the elite level is incorrect and premature. If such trials are implemented, they should be limited to responsibly conducted tests at lower levels, a position that FIFA intends to reiterate when this agenda item is discussed at the IFAB AGM on March 2», clarified a statement from the organization led by Gianni InfantinoHaut du formulaire in response to the widespread media coverage of this news.
