Togo – China: Increased cooperation for innovation and sustainable development

In a bid to diversify its international partnerships, President Faure Gnassingbé of Togo is actively working to enhance cooperation with various global partners.

A recent highlight of these efforts is the strengthening of parliamentary cooperation between Togo and China.

This renewed collaboration was reaffirmed on August 6 during a meeting between the President of the Togolese National Assembly, Kodjo Adedze, and his counterpart from the Shenzhen People’s Congress, Dai Yunlong.

The meeting, attended by Chinese Ambassador Chao Weidong, marked a significant milestone in the partnership between the two cities.

Established in 1996, the partnership between Lomé and Shenzhen is poised to enter a new phase of reinforced cooperation.

Discussions focused on expanding collaborations in high technology, innovation, green development, and knowledge transfer.

According to Ambassador Chao Weidong, the similarities between the two cities offer substantial opportunities for increased cooperation, particularly in exploring innovative and sustainable development avenues.

Shenzhen, often dubbed the “Silicon Valley of China,” is a bustling municipality with nearly 20 million residents.

It stands out for its rapid development in key sectors such as technology, finance, commerce, and tourism.

This wealth of experience and expertise is expected to support Togo’s development by leveraging the synergies created between the two cities.

This initiative aligns with Togo’s strategic goal of diversifying its international relations and strengthening its capacities in vital sectors for national development.

The cooperation with Shenzhen promises to bring significant benefits to Togo, highlighting President Faure Gnassingbé’s commitment to active and fruitful diplomacy.
