Chelsea eyeing Joao Felix as talks for Samu Omorodion stall
Chelsea are considering a move to re-sign Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid after negotiations for striker Samu Omorodion hit a snag.
Despite agreeing on a £34.5 million fee for the 20-year-old Omorodion last week, discussions over personal terms broke down late last night, putting the transfer in jeopardy.
While the deal for Omorodion isn’t completely off the table, progress has been slower than expected.
Chelsea had approached the deal with caution, especially as they continue to explore the possibility of signing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, with Romelu Lukaku potentially moving in the opposite direction.
In the wake of these stalled talks, Chelsea are now turning their attention back to Joao Felix.
The 24-year-old forward, who spent six months on loan at Stamford Bridge during the 2022-23 season, is reportedly open to a return.
The Blues have already met with Felix’s agent, Jorge Mendes, to discuss a potential deal, with Atletico Madrid valuing the player at around £43 million.
Securing Felix could also facilitate the departure of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher to Atletico for £34 million.
The LaLiga club, which has yet to finalize Gallagher’s move, has indicated that it hinges on completing a major sale—potentially Felix.
Chelsea’s summer transfer activity has been substantial, with the club signing 10 players, including Wolves forward Pedro Neto in a £54 million deal confirmed on Saturday.
The Blues have spent £185 million this summer, focusing on younger talent, bringing the average age of new signings to under 21 and expanding their senior squad to around 50 players.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid is expected to proceed with their £81.5 million move for Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez, independent of their need to sell Felix to secure Gallagher’s transfer.
