African Football needs better Infrastructure to compete on World Stage, Says DR Congo Coach

Sebastien Desabre, coach of DR Congo, has stressed the need for better football infrastructure across Africa to compete successfully on the world stage. His remarks follow Ghana’s recent ban by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) from hosting international matches due to stadium issues.

Desabre, whose team reached the 2023 AFCON semi-finals, believes that while the quality of play is improving, inadequate facilities are holding back African teams.

Desabre highlighted that nations like Benin, Kenya, and Madagascar have faced similar problems, forcing them to use neutral venues. Ghana may face the same issue if alternative stadiums are not approved.

Despite Morocco’s historic World Cup semi-final appearance, Desabre calls for further investment in stadiums and training facilities to support African teams.

Desabre is attending a CAF coaches’ symposium in Ivory Coast, discussing ways to improve future tournaments.

With DR Congo starting its AFCON 2025 qualifiers strongly, Desabre emphasizes the importance of maintaining focus and preparation for upcoming matches.
