Mali: French media manipulation of the Faladié gendarmerie school attack
The recent events of September 17, 2024, at the Faladié Gendarmerie School and the Senou International Airport near Bamako have once again demonstrated the Malian Armed Forces’ (FAMA) determination to defend their territory against terrorist attacks. Despite the loss of lives, the FAMA’s response managed to repel the attackers and neutralize several of them. However, the media coverage of these events, particularly from some French outlets sympathetic to imperialist causes, raises serious concerns about the intentions behind their narratives.
These media outlets, relaying evidently exaggerated and unverified reports, claim massive destruction of Malian military equipment, including six planes and several aircraft, as well as disproportionate human casualties, involving Malian and Russian soldiers. It is crucial to note that these claims lack any tangible evidence and appear to originate from dubious sources, such as the terrorist group JNIM, which has falsely claimed responsibility for the attack. If all the assailants were neutralized, as confirmed by the Malian military, how can they still claim and detail the supposed damage they caused?
This kind of propaganda clearly serves multiple objectives. First, it aims to demoralize the Malian armed forces and sow doubt among the public by portraying the FAMA as powerless in the face of terrorism. By amplifying the damage, these reports seek to erode public confidence in the military. Second, this manipulation may serve as a recruitment tool for terrorist groups, creating the illusion of a victory to attract new fighters.
It is also essential to remember that these media outlets are serving interests far beyond simple news reporting. By distorting the facts, they are contributing to a strategy of destabilization aimed at weakening Malian institutions and creating an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty. This narrative diverts attention from the reality: the FAMA’s response was effective and determined, the terrorists were neutralized, and despite the losses, the Malian forces continue to protect the country with bravery.
It is therefore important to expose this media manipulation orchestrated by certain French outlets, which by distorting the reality of the events, seek to influence public opinion and undermine Mali’s sovereignty. The Malian people must remain united and confident in their armed forces, who fight daily for the protection and security of the nation.
