Football/ Bayer Leverkusen moves to lock down Florian Wirtz amid transfer speculation

At just 21 years old, Florian Wirtz has already established himself as one of the most promising talents in European football. Currently flourishing at Bayer Leverkusen, Wirtz’s performances have caught the eye of top clubs like Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, who are reportedly lining up moves for the rising star next summer.

But Leverkusen is not ready to part ways with their young midfielder just yet. According to Bild, the club is working on a contract extension that would keep Wirtz at the BayArena until 2028.

This move is designed to protect the club’s long-term interests and ensure they retain his services until at least 2026, even as interest from major European clubs intensifies.

Despite the allure of a transfer to a footballing powerhouse, Wirtz’s future remains firmly in the hands of his family, particularly his father, who also acts as his agent.

According to reports, the Wirtz camp is in no hurry to make a big move, preferring to prioritize his development at Leverkusen rather than rushing into a high-profile transfer.

With Wirtz under contract until 2027, Leverkusen’s strategy to extend that deal by another year signals their intent to build their squad around the talented midfielder and fend off any potential suitors.

As speculation grows, Leverkusen is determined to keep hold of their prized asset for as long as possible.
