Togo: President Faure Gnassingbé’s proactive diplomacy, a lever for growth for the country thanks to strategic partnerships

President Faure Gnassingbé’s proactive diplomacy continues to yield tangible benefits for Togo, strengthening strategic partnerships that boost the national economy.

This week marked a significant milestone in customs cooperation between Togo and China, as Kokou Tchodie, the Commissioner General of the Togolese Revenue Office (OTR), met with a Chinese delegation led by the Deputy Director of Customs.

This meeting reflects Togo’s commitment to facilitating trade with its partners and enhancing its integration into international trade networks.

Central to their discussions were the cooperation modalities concerning Authorized Economic Operators (AEO).

This program is crucial for Togolese and Chinese companies that meet compliance and safety standards, aiming to streamline customs procedures and reduce processing times.

By simplifying the movement of goods across borders, this initiative is expected to foster growth in bilateral trade, directly benefiting Togolese businesses through quicker and more secure transactions.

This visit builds on a recent trip by the OTR delegation to China, highlighting a shared commitment to harmonizing customs standards between the two nations.

Such harmonization paves the way for smoother and more transparent trade, providing economic operators with a more stable and predictable framework.

With this strengthened cooperation, Sino-Togolese relations are poised to reach unprecedented levels of collaboration.

For Togo, this represents an opportunity to diversify its trade and further integrate its population into global economic dynamics, driven by a development-oriented diplomacy aimed at shared progress.
