Lagos Fashion Week 2024: A Celebration of African style and inclusivity

The Lagos Fashion Week 2024 kicked off on October 23rd. Themed “Commune,” this 4 days event brought an explosion of color, creativity, and inclusion to Nigeria’s bustling fashion scene.

Now an essential platform for Africa’s designers, this event continues to elevate African fashion’s profile on the world stage, celebrating its unique and bold style with each passing year.

The buzz peaked when afrobeats icon Davido made a surprise runway appearance for celebrated Nigerian designer Ugo Monye, known for his opulent menswear and wedding attire.

The crowd went wild as the Grammy-nominated star joined the models, infusing even more excitement into the event.

“It was incredible,” shared Adaeze Cybil Mokaeze, a film producer and content creator. “Designers here really aren’t playing around—this was African fashion at its finest, with bold colors, intricate patterns, and a real sense of extravagance.”

This year’s show brought diversity to the forefront, breaking barriers and reflecting Africa’s multifaceted identity.

Stephen Daniel, a lifestyle content creator, praised the range on display: “Lagos Fashion Week 2024 is truly inclusive.

We saw models of every shape, size, and color—each bringing something unique. And Davido’s appearance was just the cherry on top.”

For industry insiders like Ivy Kakaiiiza, business development manager, the steady improvement is apparent.

“Every year, the quality just keeps getting better,” she said, calling for even greater female representation. “We’re on an upward trajectory. It’s progress.”

Launched since 2011, Lagos Fashion Week remains a powerful force for African fashion, connecting local heritage with global trends and proving that African designers are here to make their mark.

This 2024 edition will be closed on October 27th.
