Football/ Pep Guardiola set for Manchester City contract extension

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is on the verge of extending his stay at the club, with an official announcement expected in the coming days, according to The Athletic.

The Spaniard, whose current deal expires at the end of the season, is poised to sign a new contract that could see him surpass a decade in charge of City. Guardiola joined the club in the summer of 2016 and has since built a legacy, amassing 18 trophies, including six Premier League titles and a historic Champions League victory.

The speculation surrounding Guardiola’s future intensified after City recently announced the departure of director of football Txiki Begiristain at the end of the season.

Begiristain, a close ally of Guardiola since their time at Barcelona, will be succeeded by Hugo Viana, Sporting Lisbon’s current sporting director and a former Newcastle United midfielder.

Securing Guardiola’s commitment would be a significant boost for City, especially as they prepare for a packed schedule next summer that includes the Club World Cup.

With Guardiola’s proven track record and a focus on stability amid leadership changes, City looks set to extend its dominance under one of the most successful managers in football history.
