DRC: 60 years since the martyrdom of Blessed Anuarite, a call for unity and vigilance

On December 2, 2024, the Democratic Republic of Congo marked the 60th anniversary of the martyrdom of Blessed Anuarite, a symbol of unwavering courage and faith in the nation’s history.

This solemn occasion, observed with prayers and reflections on Anuarite’s sacrifice, was a moment for President Félix Tshisekedi to address the people of Isiro.

He urged them to reject the violence and division that have marred the country’s past, calling for vigilance against those who support rebellion and seek to sow discord.

“Do not heed such proposals, even if they come from your own brothers,” the President emphasized, stressing the need for collective awareness to resist destabilizing forces.

President Tshisekedi’s address was both a cautionary message and a rallying call for national unity. Acknowledging the ongoing security challenges facing the DRC, he urged citizens to stand together against threats, whether internal or external.

He also highlighted the importance of upholding peace, justice, and social cohesion while honouring the legacy of individuals like Anuarite, who gave their lives for the dignity and freedom of the Congolese people.

The President reaffirmed that a united and resolute nation is essential to overcoming adversity and building a stable and prosperous future for all.
