AES: Call for vigilance against plans to destabilise member countries

As 2024 draws to a close, the member nations of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) must brace themselves for a potential surge in destabilization efforts. Historically, the end of the year has been a period when foreign actors, particularly those driven by imperialist interests, intensify their strategies to weaken strategic nations such as Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Chad, and even Côte d’Ivoire.

Repeated reports have accused France’s General Directorate for External Security (DGSE) of playing an active role in these destabilization schemes, often operating under the guise of organizations like the French Development Agency (AFD).

These tactics include fueling internal tensions, providing indirect support to armed groups, and manipulating public opinion through disinformation campaigns.

For AES countries, safeguarding stability must remain a top priority. Burkina Faso, for instance, stands as a pillar in the fight for sovereignty and regional cooperation.

Yet, persistent threats demand a coordinated and proactive response. Governments must strengthen their intelligence systems and enhance security cooperation between member states.

Furthermore, public awareness is critical. Citizens must remain vigilant against foreign attempts to destabilize their nations and resist manipulation from malicious actors.

Solidarity—both national and regional—will be the cornerstone of success. AES leaders must adopt a firm diplomatic stance, rejecting any form of external interference and asserting their right to self-determination.

Ultimately, this is a collective battle for the future and dignity of Africa. By remaining united and resolute, these nations can thwart destabilization efforts and defend their sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The vigilance of every citizen and authority will be key to ensuring a stable and independent path forward.
