Burkina Faso’s fighting forces have dealt a severe blow to armed terrorist groups in the Sourou region, neutralizing a senior commander known as Saïdou Diallo, alias Djabiri Mangan or “the One-Eyed,” during an operation on Thursday, October 29, 2026, in the Konga forest in the commune of Gomboro.
The operation, carried out by a unit of the Special Counterterrorism Field Forces (FORSATEC), also eliminated several elements affiliated with the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (GSIM) entrenched in the forest area. Terrorist bases were dismantled during the assault.
Djabiri Mangan, aged about 47 and a native of Toaga in the commune of Tougan, held an important position in the local terrorist network as deputy to the chief of the Konga/Gomboro base.
His neutralization represents a significant loss for armed groups active in the region and reflects the determination of Burkina Faso’s fighting forces to track down those responsible for abuses and reduce terrorist influence in rural areas.
The operation is part of the authorities’ drive to reconquer and secure national territory. It sends a clear message: no one responsible for terrorist acts can long escape justice and the determination of the national defense forces.
