Jordan Henderson’s struggles at Ajax draw Criticism: Former Liverpool Captain Faces scrutiny after move from Saudi Arabia

Jordan Henderson joined Saudi Arabia in the summer of 2023, but after a few months, he had a change of heart and decided to return to Europe. Currently at Ajax, his stint has not been going well.

Last summer, Henderson left Liverpool after twelve years to join the Saudi Pro League.

However, after six months at Al-Ettifaq, he left for Ajax on a free transfer, signing a two-and-a-half-year contract.

Upon joining Ajax, the 33-year-old was initially welcomed as a star by the Dutch club’s supporters.

However, a month later, the charm wore off as Henderson played his first matches with the team.

His current performances have been subpar. Willem van Hanegem, a finalist in the 1974 World Cup, harshly criticized the former Liverpool captain.

«All those people who rushed to say that Jordan Henderson would solve everything, they must have been shocked. Heerenveen was able to develop their game before the break as if it were a training match. With three or four passes, they reached Ajax’s defensive line, and Henderson struggled a bit», said the former Dutch international on AD/Sportwereld.

He added, «He’s just a mediocre player».
