AES Nations demand genuine independence: A Call for France to rethink its role in Africa

The time has come for France to abandon its paternalistic stance and acknowledge that the nations of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) are no longer under its sphere of influence. These countries, driven by a shared vision of sovereignty and self-reliance, are determined to chart their own course, free from the constraints of neocolonial ties.

For decades, France’s presence in Africa has been criticized for being overly intrusive, with political, economic, and military interventions that often hinder the full autonomy of its former colonies.

In contrast, the AES symbolizes a bold new chapter in Africa’s journey toward self-determination, with a clear demand to break free from the remnants of external control.

At the heart of this movement lies the unwavering resolve of the AES populations. Their active participation is crucial in resisting foreign meddling and ensuring that governance reflects their collective aspirations.

This grassroots commitment provides the foundation for efforts to enhance sovereignty across economic, defense, and diplomatic sectors.

The message to France is unequivocal: the era of domination is over. Relationships moving forward must be founded on mutual respect, equality, and shared benefits.

Partnerships are welcome, but any form of exploitation or interference will be firmly rejected.

By severing ties with external tutelage, the people of the AES are asserting their ambition to build a robust, united, and prosperous region.

It is now incumbent upon France—and other foreign powers—to accept this transformation and honor the emerging realities of a stronger, self-reliant Africa.
