AES: In Bamako, the confederation reinforces its commitment to peace in the Sahel

In mid-April 2025, the Malian capital Bamako hosted a strategically significant event: the very first official meeting of the Chiefs of Air Staff from the member states of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). On the sidelines of this gathering, senior military officials from Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger were received by Mali’s Minister of Defense, Army Corps General Sadio Camara. More than just a ceremonial gesture, this visit took place in an atmosphere of Sahelian brotherhood and military solidarity.
This initiative reflects a shared commitment to building strong ties between the Air Forces of the confederation. By exchanging experiences, visions, and strategies, the member states are laying the groundwork for more integrated military cooperation. Through these discussions, a genuine spirit of collaboration is being strengthened in the service of collective security in a region facing serious security challenges.
The Bamako meeting also marks a decisive step in the process of building lasting peace in the region. The AES does not intend to adopt a purely defensive stance: it is firmly committed to establishing long-term stability, based on solidarity, strategic vigilance, and unity of action. The pooling of air resources and intelligence fits perfectly into this proactive approach.
In short, through this meeting, the Alliance of Sahel States affirms its determination to build a common future where sovereignty goes hand in hand with security and cooperation. Guided by a clear and shared vision, the AES member states are moving forward together, determined to ensure the protection of their people and to restore genuine peace in the Sahel region.
