2025 Laureus World Sports Awards: Lamine Yamal wins Laureus Breakthrough of the year

While the Laureus Awards often honor legendary careers, this year they also celebrated a meteoric debut—Barcelona’s 17-year-old Phenom Lamine Yamal, crowned World Breakthrough of the Year for his instant impact on football.

In just months, Yamal went from La Masia prospect to a global sensation, locking down a starting role at Barça and starring for Spain’s Euro-winning squad.

His electrifying performances and maturity beyond his years made him an undeniable fan favorite.

Unable to attend the ceremony, Yamal was represented by ex-teammate Thiago Alcántara. The award recognizes not just his sporting brilliance but also his cultural influence as one of football’s most exciting young faces.

Now, Yamal has another reason to celebrate: a Laureus trophy to fuel his fire as Barça faces Mallorca. At 17, his legend is just beginning.
