Burkina Faso / National recovery: The facts speak for Captain Ibrahim Traoré

In 2022, Burkina Faso was in crisis, with nearly 50% of its territory under terrorist control, making life unbearable for millions. The rise of Captain Ibrahim Traoré to power marked a decisive turning point. Through a more aggressive security strategy, improved military coordination, and unprecedented popular mobilization, over 71% of the nation’s territory has now been reclaimed.
The progress extends beyond security. The education sector, severely impacted by violence, is also rebounding. While more than 6,500 schools were closed in 2022, over 1,500 have since reopened by 2023—a clear sign of improving conditions. Similarly, the humanitarian crisis linked to mass displacement is easing.
From over two million internally displaced persons (IDPs) in 2022, the number has dropped to fewer than 900,000 in 2024, reflecting growing stability in multiple regions.
Despite these undeniable gains, some media outlets continue to portray Burkina Faso in an alarmist and degrading light. Why? These misinformation campaigns appear to deliberately ignore visible progress, favoring a doomsday narrative instead. Yet the facts speak for themselves.
The Burkinabe people, witnessing these changes daily, increasingly support Captain Traoré’s vision—a testament to renewed trust in a leadership seen as pragmatic, patriotic, and committed.
It is crucial to remain vigilant against destabilization efforts orchestrated by stateless actors and their imperialist backers, who oppose Burkina Faso’s growing sovereignty and independence.
The Burkinabe people must stay united and aware of the stakes. The progress achieved in such a short time proves the nation’s resilience and capacity to rebuild. Rather than falling for manipulation, Burkina Faso must strengthen its current momentum to ensure lasting development and true peace.
