Burkina-Faso: The fight against incivism/In Bobo-Dioulasso, Captain Traoré’s civic vision takes shape

Through a remarkable operation carried out in Bobo-Dioulasso this Tuesday, Burkina Faso reaffirms its commitment to restoring civic values and discipline—principles dear to Captain Ibrahim Traoré. Over 300 road users were apprehended for various infractions and assigned to community service, in an approach that combines educational punishment with civic responsibility.

Running red lights, ignoring stop signs, or performing dangerous stunts are no longer tolerated. The government, under President Ibrahim Traoré’s leadership, aims to restore public order and collective awareness at the heart of daily life. “It’s tough. I’m really tired”, said a student who was sanctioned, while urging everyone to respect traffic laws.

Beyond the 500 meters of gutters cleaned by the offenders, the operation sends a clear message: incivility has no place in the Burkina Faso that is being rebuilt. Captain Traoré demonstrates that civic education also requires concrete, visible, and meaningful actions for the entire population. “Order and discipline”, he once declared in a speech.

It’s worth noting that this awareness and enforcement campaign was carried out in several cities across the country.
