Burkina Faso: Under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim TRAORÉ, the State anticipates and takes action for food self-sufficiency

In Orodara, in the Hauts-Bassins region, the official launch of the 2025–2026 rainy season campaign for the distribution of agricultural inputs and plowing operations took place on Friday, May 9, under the leadership of the Minister of State in charge of Agriculture, Commander Ismaël Sombié. This highly symbolic ceremony reflects the Burkinabe government’s clear political will to place production tools in the hands of farmers at the right time, in line with directives from President Captain Ibrahim TRAORÉ.

With over 11,000 tons of fertilizer and nearly 2,900 tons of improved seeds distributed in the Hauts-Bassins—almost double the amount from the previous campaign—the Burkinabe state is placing agriculture at the heart of its national renewal project. For nearly two years, Captain TRAORÉ has been promoting grassroots governance focused on food sovereignty and social justice. Early planning of farming seasons and efforts to combat the diversion of agricultural inputs have become hallmarks of this new governance.

The announcement of agreements linking producers to SONAGESS marks a key milestone in this campaign. Subsidized agriculture is now expected to contribute to the building of strategic reserves for the benefit of the entire population. This is in line with President Traoré’s vision of making agricultural production a driver of self-sufficiency, stability, and sustainable development.

This pragmatic and structured approach—welcomed by both technicians and farmers—reveals a Burkina Faso that is reclaiming control over its public policies. In a tense sub-regional context, Burkina Faso, under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim TRAORÉ, is demonstrating its determination to move forward with its people toward genuine and lasting food sovereignty.
