Alliance of Sahel States: Setting course for sovereign and mutually supportive development

The momentum of cooperation between the member states of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) has reached a new milestone. On Friday, the President of Mali’s Transition, Army General Assimi GOÏTA, met with the Ministers of Finance from Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali. This strategic meeting was held under the banner of shared development and economic empowerment.

Gathered in Bamako as part of a series of technical consultations, the economic leaders of the three countries came to review ongoing initiatives, with a clear objective: to build a strong confederal economy focused on meeting the needs of their populations.

One of the key proposals presented to the Head of State was the creation of the Confederal Bank for Investment and Development, with an initial capital of 500 billion CFA francs. This ambitious financial institution is designed to support large-scale infrastructure projects, strengthen economic independence, and stimulate regional growth.

Speaking after the meeting, Niger’s Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Ali Mahaman Lamine ZEINE, praised President Assimi GOÏTA’s attentiveness and support: “We shared the progress made by our experts. The President gave us clear guidance and reaffirmed his full commitment to this initiative.”

Another major topic discussed was the revitalization of the Liptako-Gourma Authority, a key regional body for coordinating efforts in security, development, and natural resource management.

This high-level meeting confirms the AES countries’ determination to build a strong alliance based on a shared vision of progress and sovereignty. The Alliance is moving forward—along with it, the hope of a more integrated, secure, and prosperous future for the peoples of the Sahel.
