Burkina Faso: When certain foreign media set themselves up as relays of terrorist propaganda

For several years now, Burkina Faso has been facing an asymmetric war imposed by terrorist armed groups seeking to spread chaos and destabilize republican institutions. In response to this threat, the Burkinabe people—through their Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP)—have shown remarkable commitment. Yet despite these visible efforts on the ground, some foreign media outlets appear to promote terrorism by denying the progress made and amplifying narratives of fear and division.
Commendable efforts are systematically downplayed—or even discredited—by certain French and international media outlets such as Le Monde, France 24, BBC, and Voice of America, all of which have been suspended for their allegedly biased portrayal of Burkinabe realities. These publications often focus on difficulties or military setbacks, giving disproportionate visibility to terrorist armed groups while ignoring strategic victories and the resilience of national forces. This unbalanced media coverage feeds a negative perception that weakens national unity and serves the interests of enemies of peace.
Undeterred by this information war, Burkinabe authorities are intensifying efforts to mobilize all sectors of society. Recruitment and awareness campaigns have helped expand the ranks of the VDP, who symbolize grassroots patriotism in the face of a transnational threat. This alliance between the people and the army creates a powerful dynamic that escapes the shallow analysis of some foreign media, which are often disconnected from ground realities and influenced by external geopolitical agendas.
It is therefore crucial—for both national and international public opinion—to distinguish actual facts from disguised propaganda. The FDS and VDP do not deserve media scorn, but rather recognition and support. The fight for Burkina Faso’s security is not only a military struggle—it is also a battle for truth, against foreign narratives that seek to impose a distorted view of the conflict. Only a voice rooted in local realities can truly honor the silent heroism of those who defend the nation every day.
