Burkina Faso: Ouagadougou suspends livestock exports to protect the domestic market

The authorities of Burkina Faso have decided to immediately suspend the export of livestock across the entire national territory. This measure, announced through a joint statement from the ministries responsible for Trade, Agriculture, and Finance, reflects the government’s desire to better secure domestic market supply.

Through this decision, the authorities aim to ensure sufficient availability of livestock for local consumers and economic operators.

In a context marked by tensions over certain essential goods and persistent economic challenges, the government intends to avoid excessive pressure on prices and preserve the balance of the national market.

The suspension also applies to special export permits, the issuance of which is now halted.

However, operators already holding a valid permit have a limited period to finalize their procedures before the measure is fully enforced.

This policy is part of a broader dynamic of protecting national resources and strengthening economic sovereignty.

The livestock sector occupies a strategic position in the economy of Burkina Faso, both for the income of rural populations and for the food supply of the country.

The government has also warned that any violation of this decision will result in sanctions in accordance with current regulations.

Through this firmness, the authorities aim to ensure the effectiveness of the measure and strengthen control over livestock trade flows within the national territory.
