UK Emerges as sole Bidder for 2035 Women’s World Cup

The United Kingdom is poised to host the 2035 FIFA Women’s World Cup after submitting the only “valid” bid before Monday’s deadline. The joint proposal from England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland now faces no direct competition, with FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirming the bid’s exclusivity at the UEFA Congress in Belgrade.

The 2031 edition is set for the U.S., potentially alongside other CONCACAF nations, while the 2035 tournament—expanded to 48 teams—will mark the first Women’s World Cup across the UK.

Football Association chiefs expressed enthusiasm, with England’s Mark Bullingham calling it an “honour,” while Wales’ Noel Mooney highlighted the bid’s potential to inspire future generations.

England manager Sarina Wiegman noted the momentum from Euro 2022, stating a World Cup would further elevate women’s football.

A formal bid must be submitted by winter, with FIFA’s final vote in 2026. If successful, it will be the first World Cup in the UK since the men’s 1966 tournament.
