Burkina Faso’s President Ibrahim Traoré hosts AES Defense Ministers to strengthen joint counterterrorism efforts

Ouagadougou, May 9 – In a demonstration of unwavering commitment to regional security, Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, met with defense ministers from the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) on Friday to assess and reinforce collaborative counterterrorism efforts.

The high-level talks focused on consolidating recent military gains and enhancing operational coordination among member states.

Despite his attendance at the 80th anniversary of Russia’s WWII victory in Moscow, President Traoré prioritized the security of the Sahel, receiving updates from ministers on the AES Joint Force’s progress.

Mali’s Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, General Sadio Camara, speaking on behalf of the delegation, highlighted the force’s “tangible successes” against terrorist groups, underscoring a structural shift in regional security management.

President Traoré issued new strategic directives to intensify military operations and ensure lasting victories against insecurity.

The AES’s unified approach marked by intelligence-sharing, synchronized ground strategies, and pooled resources reflects its growing autonomy and adaptability in confronting modern security threats.

This meeting marks a pivotal step for the AES, reinforcing its vision of a robust, self-reliant security framework. The alliance continues to assert itself as a decisive regional player, transforming the Sahel’s defense landscape through collective action and shared resolve.
