Burkina Faso revives national brewery as symbol of industrial renaissance

Under President Ibrahim Traoré’s industrial revival policy, Burkina Faso is taking a decisive step toward economic sovereignty with the rebirth of its national brewery. The former BRAFASO plant, now rebranded as “Société Nouvelle Brasserie du Faso” (SN-BRAFASO), represents a strategic shift toward building robust local industries that add value to domestic resources.

Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo recently inspected the SN-BRAFASO rehabilitation site in Komsilga, underscoring the government’s commitment to this flagship project.

Accompanied by the Minister of Industry, he emphasized the extensive reconstruction efforts, framing the brewery as both an economic driver and a symbol of national self-reliance.

After 15 years of dormancy, the brewery’s revival promises to create hundreds of jobs while utilizing local crops like sorghum and maize reducing import dependency and empowering Burkinabe consumers with homegrown products.

Scheduled to launch within months, SN-BRAFASO embodies Burkina Faso’s push for controlled, inclusive industrialization.

The project reflects a political determination to transform challenges into opportunities, positioning local industry as the cornerstone of sustainable development.
