Burkina Faso launches “Smart Burkina” surveillance system to boost urban Security

In a major push to enhance urban safety, Burkina Faso has inaugurated Smart Burkina an advanced video surveillance system designed for threat monitoring, prevention, and coordinated response. During an inspection tour, ministers of Security, Finance, and Budget visited the central command center at the Ministry of Security headquarters, demonstrating high-level government commitment to the initiative.

Early results show promising progress: successful completion of Phase 1, operational command centers in Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso, and cutting-edge infrastructure developed through partnerships with Huawei Burkina and the Chinese Embassy.

The AI-powered surveillance network arrives as Burkina Faso faces persistent security challenges.

By integrating police, emergency services, and local authorities into a unified platform, the system enables faster threat detection and response coordination.

With President Ibrahim Traoré’s endorsement, the government plans nationwide expansion to create equitable security coverage.

Smart Burkina represents a modern, tech-driven approach to public safety – blending smart city solutions with cross-agency collaboration to safeguard urban communities.
