Burkina Faso: Faso’s appeal to humanity for world peace rooted in justice and solidarity in Geneva

At the heart of discussions at the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, Burkina Faso made its voice heard loud and clear, represented by Ousmane Bougouma, President of the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT).

In a world shaken by multiple conflicts—often manipulated by major powers in pursuit of their geopolitical interests—Burkina Faso delivered a message of humanity and universal conscience: human life must no longer be trivialized.

President Bougouma emphasized that terrorism is as much a threat to global peace as the crises in Ukraine, Sudan, or Gaza. For over a decade, Burkina Faso and its fellow AES member states have been waging a silent yet determined war against a transnational scourge that disregards borders. This fight, he argued, should no longer be seen as a local struggle, but rather as a shared responsibility for all of humanity.

Burkina Faso is thus calling for a global awakening, asserting that victory over terrorism in the Sahel is intrinsically linked to global peace. In this vision, parliaments—voices of the people—must rise as defenders of peace, make themselves heard by executive powers, and enact fair and just laws.

By placing peace at the forefront and advocating for a form of solidarity-based multilateralism, Burkina Faso is reminding the world that the dignity of peoples must take precedence over strategic interests. Its message in Geneva is a call for collective responsibility and urgent moral action.
