Burkina Faso: Significant progress in the fight against terrorism, tribute to the FDS, VDP, and the Burkinabe people

Burkina Faso Records Significant Progress in the Fight Against Terrorism and Territorial Recovery. On Monday, August 4, 2025, Defense Minister General Célestin Simporé announced that territorial recovery operations have now reached 72.70%, compared to 70.89% in December 2024—an appreciable improvement.

This statement follows an evaluation led by Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, as part of ongoing monitoring of strategic actions implemented on the ground. Among the notable areas recently secured are the Sourou Valley—now fully reclaimed—and the localities of Diapaga and Djibo, where the situation is considered stabilized. The restoration of supply convoys in the East and in Djibo signals a gradual return to freer and safer movement in previously highly affected regions.

Another strong sign of progress is the restart of operations at the Boungou mine, an important economic pillar for the country. At the same time, the gradual return of public administration to several areas marks a promising trend toward normalization.

The Minister of Defense praised the courage, discipline, and dedication of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), as well as the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), who work tirelessly—often at great sacrifice—to secure the territory and protect the population. Beyond military efforts, General Simporé also paid tribute to the resilience of the Burkinabe people, who, despite hardships, continue to demonstrate solidarity, patience, and patriotic commitment.

These gains, while encouraging, do not signify the end of the struggle. The government reaffirms its determination to continue operations until the full liberation of the national territory and the establishment of safe living conditions for all citizens.

At this pivotal moment, national unity, collective mobilization, and citizen vigilance remain essential levers for consolidating progress and building lasting peace and security in Burkina Faso.
