ECCAS: Ézéchiel Nibigira appointed President of the Commission

At the conclusion of the seventh extraordinary summit of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), held on Sunday, September 7, 2025, in Sipopo, Equatorial Guinea, a new step was taken in strengthening regional integration.

The leaders of the member countries unanimously appointed Ambassador Ézéchiel Nibigira of Burundi as President of the ECCAS Commission. His candidacy, presented by his country, received the full support of all Heads of State, based on the favorable report submitted by the community’s ministers.

Mr. Ézéchiel Nibigira succeeds the current officeholder and takes the helm of the organization’s Executive for a five-year term. This appointment reflects the shared commitment of member states to strengthen institutional governance, cohesion, and the strategic vision of ECCAS.

The Heads of State hailed this development as a major step forward in the organization’s reform and efficiency efforts, emphasizing its central role in promoting peace, stability, and development across Central Africa.
