Burkina Faso: Burkinabe gold, record production serving national development

Burkina Faso reached a new milestone in 2024 with a gold production of 60.8 tonnes, compared to 56.8 tonnes in 2023 and 57.6 tonnes in 2022. This result confirms the strategic importance of the gold sector in the national economy, where most of the production is destined for export, making it one of the country’s main sources of foreign currency.

In recent years, the trajectory has been impressive: from 5.6 tonnes produced in the early years, Burkina Faso reached nearly 61 tonnes in 2024. This growth reflects not only the richness of the Burkinabe subsoil but also the efforts made to structure and develop the sector.

From a budgetary perspective, the benefits are substantial. Direct revenues from the mining sector reached 567.226 billion CFA francs, or over one billion dollars in 2024. This windfall strengthens the State’s ability to fund projects and consolidate economic sovereignty.

Beyond direct financial contributions, the gold industry also plays a driving role in local development. Local authorities benefit from significant investments in infrastructure, basic social services, and employment, thereby improving the quality of life for communities.
