Emmanuel Macron’s call to fitness: A Sporting President’s encouragement for daily Exercise

French President Emmanuel Macron, an avid sports enthusiast, dedicates «two sessions per week, with forty-five minutes of training, warm-up, and even boxing for core strength», as revealed by his wife Brigitte Macron in November 2023 in an interview with «Paris Match».

It is evident that the occupant of the Elysée has a particular interest in boxing. In a video released this Monday, January 8, 2024, he is seen wearing a t-shirt from the French Boxing Federation, with boxing gloves neatly tied over his shoulder.

In the background, a punching bag also catches the eye. It is in this setting that the French president has chosen to encourage his compatriots to incorporate daily physical activity.

Macron advises the French to dedicate “30 minutes of sport” each day.

«I invite you all to do at least 30 minutes of sport every day, and hopefully more if you can, but at least 30 minutes a day. It’s good for your health, and it has positive effects on many aspects. It’s also a way to integrate the Games that will become a daily habit», he says in the video.

The French president alludes to the Paris Olympic Games scheduled to start in July 2024.

«Green Games in line with the Paris Agreement»

He expresses hope that French athletes will stand out by winning «many medals». These Games will be «the most environmentally friendly in history… Green Games in line with the Paris Agreement.

We will host gender-equal Games, with as many female athletes as male athletes. We will have exceptional delegations of Olympic and Paralympic athletes, with, I hope, many French medals», he declares.
