Burkina Faso and Serbia explore broader cooperation
The President of the Legislative Assembly of the People (ALP), Ousmane Bougouma, received a delegation from Serbia led by Slavenko Ristic on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. The meeting took place at the parliament headquarters as part of a working visit by the Serbian delegation to Burkina Faso, which began on June 1, 2026.
After the audience, the head of the delegation said the talks focused mainly on prospects for cooperation between the parliamentary institutions of the two countries.
According to him, this approach reflects a shared will to strengthen relations between Burkina Faso and Serbia through mutually beneficial partnerships.
“We are here as part of international cooperation. We believe in Burkina Faso and we trust its potential,” said Slavenko Ristic, emphasizing his country’s interest in the evolution of the situation in Burkina Faso and the efforts undertaken for its development.
Beyond parliamentary cooperation, the discussions also covered several strategic sectors. Defense and security issues featured prominently in the talks.
For the Serbian delegation, stability and security are indispensable prerequisites for any dynamic of sustainable economic development.
The two sides also discussed possibilities for collaboration in areas with a strong impact on populations.

These include agriculture, education, vocational training, and skills transfer. These sectors are seen as essential levers to strengthen national capacities and support the development ambitions of Burkina Faso.

It could help consolidate relations between Ouagadougou and Belgrade while fostering the sharing of experience and expertise in several strategic fields.
It is worth noting that the company Tehnicki Remont Bratunac, led by Slavenko Ristic, specializes in defense technologies and security equipment.
