Niger: The Head of the nigerien government on a working visit to Ankara

The Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Niger, Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, embarked on a journey to Ankara, Republic of Türkiye, on Wednesday, January 31, for a working session.

The Nigerien head of government was reportedly invited by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

He will stay there until Saturday, February 3, 2024, taking the opportunity to engage with Turkish authorities on their bilateral cooperation. These relations particularly focus on education, health, infrastructure, and security.

During the discussions scheduled for Thursday, February 1, and Friday, February 2, in Ankara, all aspects of the bilateral relations between Türkiye and Niger, and measures that can be taken to enhance cooperation, will be deliberated, according to a statement from the Turkish presidency.

In addition to bilateral relations, the two leaders are expected to exchange views on current regional and global issues.

It is noteworthy that the authorities of Niger are seeking to strengthen existing relations and create new partnerships that align with the new principles of the military regime, in order to address the current challenges in the country.

Hence, the Prime Minister’s tour, initiated in January 2024. After Russia and Iran, it is now Turkey’s turn to enhance its cooperation with this country, which is threatened by terrorism and has also been burdened by heavy sanctions from ECOWAS and UEMOA for over six (06) months.
