Unexpected turn: Hossam Hassan takes the helm as Egypt’s new Head Coach

In an unexpected twist, the Egyptian Football Federation has unveiled today the appointment of Hossam Hassan as the new conductor of the Pharaohs, succeeding Rui Vitoria.

This decision comes in the wake of the disappointment following the elimination in the Round of 16 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations at the hands of the Democratic Republic of Congo, while Vitoria was at the helm.

Aligning with the current trend observed in many African national teams, Egypt has opted to invest in a local coach.

Hossam Hassan, a true legend as the third-highest scorer in the history of the Pharaohs with 85 goals, has thus been chosen to lead the national team.

This decision was formalized following a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Egyptian Football Federation.

Initially in search of a replacement for Rui Vitoria, the Federation ultimately endorsed the choice of “HH.”

The official announcement from the EFA specifies: «The board of the Egyptian Football Federation decided, in its meeting held today, Tuesday, to appoint Hossam Hassan as the coach of the national Egyptian team, succeeding the Portuguese Rui Vitoria».
