Togo: Social inclusion of people with disabilities, the other priority for Faure Gnassingbé’s government

Within his social policy framework, President Faure Gnassingbé places a distinctive focus on social inclusion, empowerment, and the recognition of individuals with disabilities, aligning with Axis 1 of the Roadmap dedicated to strengthening social inclusion and harmony.

The Togolese government is actively advancing efforts to translate these principles into tangible outcomes.

Determined to champion the rights of people with disabilities, the Togolese government, under the purview of the Ministry of Social Action, has implemented a range of measures to enhance living conditions, provide vocational training, and empower this often marginalized demographic.

These measures encompass the delivery of specialized training to recipients, ensuring seamless integration into professional spheres upon the completion of their programs.

Additionally, the provision of technical aids such as tricycles and white canes underscores the commitment to facilitating the mobility of individuals with disabilities.

The president’s unwavering commitment to individuals living with disabilities is underscored by the ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the comprehensive implementation of various measures and initiatives aimed at guaranteeing, protecting, and promoting these rights.

Ensuring rights to education, employment, health, and social services have been meticulously upheld through a series of legislative, institutional, and administrative safeguards put in place by the government, guided by Faure Gnassingbé’s leadership.

This innovative initiative reinforces the Togolese government’s dedication to providing equitable opportunities for all citizens, regardless of distinctions, in the pursuit of constructing a flourishing nation.
