AFCON 2025: Agreement secured for summer schedule

The AFCON 2025 will take place in the summer, specifically between mid-July and mid-August, according to a preliminary agreement between the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Moroccan Football Federation.

This decision marks a departure from the two previous editions of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon and Ivory Coast.

While doubts persisted about the timing of the event, FIFA, initially opposed due to the concurrent Club World Cup, eventually acquiesced.

Discussions for the organization of AFCON 2025 began shortly after the conclusion of AFCON 2023.

The agreement announced this Monday between FIFA and CAF sets the competition dates between July 20 and August 16 or 17, 2025.

This shift to a summer schedule echoes the 2019 edition held in Egypt.

As negotiations continue for the organization of the next Africa Cup of Nations, resolving the issue of the competition’s timing brings a welcomed clarity.
