ECOWAS against any interference and destabilisation of its member states: Fed up or just kidding?

Gathered in Abuja to discuss the situation in Niger, the ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) issued a statement that has sparked speculation and questions about its real meaning.

The organization’s call to end any external interference and destabilization of its member states can be interpreted as a sign of its desire not to be dictated to by external influences.

The statement underscores the commitment of the Heads of State and Government of the ECOWAS to the sovereignty, independence, and unity of Africa.

It urges all partners to respect the sovereignty of African states and to refrain from any intervention that could destabilize ECOWAS members and undermine regional unity.

This statement also appears to corroborate the allegations from the Alliance of Sahel States that France is using ECOWAS to destabilize the region.

Reading between the lines, the «partner» mentioned in the statement seems to refer to France.

Furthermore, the statement highlights the ECOWAS’ silence regarding allegations of atrocities committed by forces associated with France in the Sahel region.

This raises questions about ECOWAS’ lack of support for states grappling with terrorism, suggesting that the organization might be aware of possible destabilization projects by its «privileged partner», Emmanuel Macron, in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.
