FC Barcelona’s Xavi Hernandez suspended for two matches following red card

Xavi Hernandez, the coach of FC Barcelona, has faced yet another sanction following his red card during the 3-0 victory against Atlético Madrid. The Spanish Football Federation has announced its decision to suspend Xavi for two matches, a punishment handed down by La Liga.

The coach received two yellow cards for protesting against the referee’s decisions during the match against Atlético Madrid, leading to his expulsion.

As a result of the suspension, the 44-year-old Catalan coach will not be available for Barcelona’s upcoming matches against Las Palmas and Cadiz.

Fans will have to wait until the Clasico on April 21st against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu to see Xavi back on the touchline.

Alongside the disciplinary action, Xavi has also been fined €600, while Barcelona has been fined €700.

Since taking over as Barcelona’s coach in November 2021, the former Spanish midfielder has accumulated more than 14 yellow cards and three red cards.
